Weinhard Hotel Photography from 2009.

In 2009, my Stepmother passed away, so I came home on leave.  Dad put myself and my oldest son Chris up in the Weinhard Hotel.  During my stay there I took advantage of the photographic opportunities afforded by the hotel.

I have seen a lot of talk about the Weinhard Hotel on the "All Things Dayton, WA" Facebook page so I thought sharing my photographic perspective from my stay might be enjoyable to folks from Dayton.

These are some detailed photographs of the Weinhard Hotel interiors.  Click on the photographs to see more detail.  (If you desire copies or copied files of these photographs please contact me.  Please don't just copy the photos without asking permission.)

Details of the foyer and then the upstairs.

Coming down the staircase this is what you would see.

Some details of items in the foyer.

Photographs of the halls of the upstairs and some details.

One of the items from the room I stayed in.

There was a rooftop patio, which was really unique and beautiful.  Photographs include details and the train caboose viewed from that patio.

I hope you enjoyed this photographic journey into my perspective.

Elk Close to Home

It has been a while since I posted anything on this blog.  I guess I've been in a little bit of a dry spell.  But an opportunity arose on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, and I had to take it.  My Son and I were heading home from Walla Walla and as we rounded Dumas Station Winery this is what we saw.

On the technical side of the photography, I made a lot of mistakes during this shoot.  So for any of you technical photographers, I did not, crop or edit anything on purpose.
These were taken with my Canon EOS Rebel XT using a 70-300mm lens at 300mm, ISO 400 and 800, at average shutter speeds of 1/4000, aperture around 16.  The last two are guesses although I have the means to check that data later.  We were 75 yards away and I took the shots through an open window in my truck.

The Indian Timothy Memorial Bridge Photography Project - 5 July 2014

While on a trip in July of 2014 I discovered this historic sight I never knew about.  8.7 Miles West of Clarkston Washington, just South of highway 12 is the Indian Timothy Memorial Bridge.

Here is a Link to a Washington State Department of Transportation article about the bridge.

When I go on road trips like the one I was on, I look for opportunities to photograph interesting places and things.  This was one of those opportunities.

This is a Google Earth image of the location:

Project Camera: "Kodak Disposable 35mm"

In 2006 I was deployed to Camp Victory, Baghdad Iraq.  At the time I had a good 35mm SLR which I decided not to take for fear of damage or loss.  Instead I had a digital Finepix camera from Fuji (only 3.5MP), which I have shown the result of in past blog entries.

At some point during the deployment someone had sent me a Kodak Disposable 35mm.  Normally I would not have purchased one of these cameras for any reason on my own.  But I love a photo challenge so I decided to take photographs with this camera in Iraq.

I did in fact shoot some of the film in Iraq and a few frames in Texas.  The camera sat in a storage box until this month when I discovered it and had it processed.  I had negatives and a disk made so this is all digits from film you will see.

I did very little in the way of modifying or enhancing these images.
In fact I only touched up two that were angled, and the panoramic shot was merged.

Item one:  This is virtually the same camera these shots where taken with.  (Image from Kodak.)

This was typical of what you would see along the roads and streets of Camp Victory Baghdad.

All things considered I was pretty surprised at how well these came out.
