Weinhard Hotel Photography from 2009.

In 2009, my Stepmother passed away, so I came home on leave.  Dad put myself and my oldest son Chris up in the Weinhard Hotel.  During my stay there I took advantage of the photographic opportunities afforded by the hotel.

I have seen a lot of talk about the Weinhard Hotel on the "All Things Dayton, WA" Facebook page so I thought sharing my photographic perspective from my stay might be enjoyable to folks from Dayton.

There was a rooftop patio, which was really unique and beautiful.  Photographs include details and the train caboose viewed from that patio.

The Dayton Washington Green Giant Project.

 This is my first "Photography, the Arts and Other Things" blog since 2018, this project started with photography around October and November of 2019 when the roadside attraction was first set up.

This is historically significant to Dayton Washington, where I reside, and many of my family members have resided before me.  I am not a historian, but I enjoy history. My aunt, Liz Carson is an amateur historian, but I have a different way of approaching history.  The photography here is only enhanced for possibly straightening slanted shots.

The Roadside Attraction.

I like to view scenes from various compositions

and perspectives, thus I have three views 

of the signage used for the roadside attraction.

The signs tell the story of "The Giant on the Hill",

and the Green Giant Cannery.

It is my understanding that "The Giant on the Hill"

has undergone some variations and changes

over the years.

Elk Close to Home

It has been a while since I posted anything on this blog.  I guess I've been in a little bit of a dry spell.  But an opportunity arose on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, and I had to take it.  My Son and I were heading home from Walla Walla and as we rounded Dumas Station Winery this is what we saw.  

  
On the technical side of the photography, I made a lot of mistakes during this shoot.  So for any of you technical photographers, I did not, crop or edit anything on purpose.  
These were taken with my Canon EOS Rebel XT using a 70-300mm lens at 300mm, ISO 400 and 800, at average shutter speeds of 1/4000, aperture around 16.  The last two are guesses although I have the means to check that data later.  We were 75 yards away and I took the shots through an open window in my truck.

Wildlife Right at Home

I live across from an open field and hill.  Often there are animals that like to graze or hang out in that field which makes for some interesting and fun photographic opportunities.

I chose not to do too much editing on these photos.  

Some of my fellow photographers would say that I 

should adjust the colors and crop the images until 

they were not even close to what I started with.

The only editing I did was to watermark and rename 

the files in a batch process using Adobe

Photoshop Elements 6.0.

Sometimes I prefer to see the image like I

originally took it.

Images were taken with my Canon EOS Rebel XT, less 

commonly known as the 350D.

I set it to, Shutter Priority at 1/320 second 

which is an oddball setting but I chose it.  

The Aperture varied with each shot but was 

between F6.3 and F13, averaging mostly F8.0
